Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 1, 2026 · Updated: May 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Paw Story LLC, a California limited liability company (“Paw Story,” “we,” “us,” “our”), collects, uses, and protects information when you use pawstory.io and our custom video service (the “Service”).

We keep this policy straightforward. We collect the minimum information needed to produce and deliver your video, and we don’t sell your data.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you place an order, we collect:

  • Your email address.
  • Your name (optional, for personalization).
  • Your dog’s name and the scenario you choose.
  • A photo of your dog that you upload.
  • If applicable, the first name of the person you’re giving the gift to.

Payment information

Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor. We do not store your card number, bank account details, or other payment credentials on our servers. Our payment processor handles payment data in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable payment-industry security standards.

Automatically collected information

When you visit pawstory.io, our hosting provider automatically collects standard server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We also store first-party analytics (page views, checkout interactions, referrer URLs, and campaign parameters from our ad and email links) in our own database.

We use the following third-party tools on our site:

  • Meta Pixel and Conversions API (Meta Platforms / Facebook, Instagram): a browser pixel and server-side event forwarder that measures the performance of our paid Facebook and Instagram ad campaigns and helps build audiences for future campaigns. Shares page views, checkout-initiation, add-payment-info, and purchase events with Meta, along with SHA-256-hashed contact data (such as email, first name, last name, postal code, country) for match quality. Card data is never shared.
  • Product analytics: anonymous session replay and heatmap analytics that help us understand how visitors interact with the site. Captures mouse movements, clicks, scroll depth, and page structure. Text input values in forms (such as your email, your dog’s name, or the recipient name) are automatically masked and are not recorded in session replays.

These tools set cookies on your device for session continuity and attribution. You can disable the product-analytics tool by enabling Do Not Track (DNT) in your browser. You can manage Meta’s use of off-Facebook activity at facebook.com/off_facebook_activity, or opt out of advertising-related sharing by emailing us (see Section 10).

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Produce your video. Pet name, scenario, uploaded photo.
  • Deliver your video. Buyer email, gift page URL, recipient first name (for personalization only, not for direct contact).
  • Process payments. Payment information (via our payment processor).
  • Communicate about your order. Buyer email and name, for order confirmation, delivery, and support.
  • Send occasional updates. New scenarios, seasonal offers, or product updates (only to past customers), with an unsubscribe link in every email.
  • Improve our Service. Aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns.
  • Measure ad performance. Hashed contact data shared with Meta for ad attribution and audience building.

3. Third-Party Services

We share information with third-party services solely to operate Paw Story:

  • Payment processor: processes your payment
  • Cloud media storage and delivery: stores and delivers your uploaded photos and finished videos
  • Website hosting provider: serves the website and collects standard server logs
  • Email delivery provider: sends transactional and marketing email
  • Database provider: stores order records and first-party analytics
  • Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram): advertising measurement and audience building via Meta Pixel and Conversions API (see Section 1)
  • Product analytics provider: anonymous session replay and heatmap analytics (see Section 1)
  • Third-party AI providers: used to generate your video from the photo and scenario you provide. Your photo is transmitted to the provider for the purpose of producing your video, subject to that provider’s own privacy and data-handling terms.

These services process only the minimum information needed for their function. Refer to their privacy policies for details on their data handling.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Marketing Emails

The email address you provide at checkout is collected primarily so we can send you transactional updates about your order. That includes the order confirmation, delivery, your gift page link, and any refund or support communication. Transactional emails are not affected by unsubscribe.

We do not currently maintain a separate marketing opt-in. If we send you a promotional email (about a new scenario, seasonal offer, or product update), every one includes a one-click unsubscribe link and our physical mailing address. Unsubscribing stops promotional emails within 10 business days.

5. Data Retention

  • Order information: retained while you have an active relationship with Paw Story or until you request deletion.
  • Uploaded photos and pet details: retained while you have an active relationship with Paw Story or until you request deletion. We keep them so we can produce additional videos for you in the future without asking you to re-upload, and (with your consent) personalize product updates we send you.
  • Generated videos and gift pages: retained indefinitely so you can keep accessing them, unless you request removal.
  • Payment records: retained as required for tax and accounting purposes (typically 7 years).
  • Marketing list: retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
  • Server logs:automatically expire per our hosting provider’s retention schedule.

To request deletion, email hi@pawstory.io. We’ll remove your information from active systems within 30 days. Backups may retain data for up to 90 days before automatic expiration.

6. Data Security

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls on our infrastructure, and secure third-party providers. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information from our active systems.
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email hi@pawstory.io. We’ll respond within 30 days.

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the following rights:

  • Right to know: request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, the sources of that information, the business purpose, and the categories of third parties we share it with.
  • Right to delete: request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions (such as data needed for legal compliance or completing a transaction).
  • Right to correct: request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell your personal information for money. We share hashed contact data with Meta for cross-context behavioral advertising as described in Section 1; you can opt out by emailing us or by managing settings at facebook.com/off_facebook_activity.
  • Right to non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To make a CCPA/CPRA request, email hi@pawstory.io. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We will verify your identity before processing any request and respond within 45 days.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date at the top. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the revised policy.
